HYDE Faith Tour @ the House of Blues in Anaheim, California
Well my sister and I didn’t arrive at the HOB till around 4:30 PM for our dinner reservation (we’ve been at AX for the entire weekend) and didn’t’ get into the actual line until around 5:30 PM. As some of the people at Tofu Records’ forums know I made a box (approximately 50) of dark chocolate gothic cross lollipops (which were decorated with gold cake powder and gold ribbon) to give out at the Anaheim concert. (Sadly, I ran out of time and couldn’t make as much of them as I wanted). So for the hour and a half that we were waiting in the line, I busted out my laptop and we watched the PVs of Countdown and Season’s Call as well as part of the Awake DVD. As usual the HOB security used the wand on us, checked bags (rather poorly), and asked if we had any cameras on us.
After we got in everyone swarmed towards the stage. Unfortunately I didn’t want to lose my great view of the stage (around the 10th row from the front on Hyde and Kaz’s side of the stage) so I didn’t seek out the gift table (which I later found out to be towards the exit of the venue) to deposit my fanbook page and Hyde’s special chocolate lollipop. The concert started a little late (8:10 PM) and the opening act came out on stage, Black List Club. They weren’t bad, I actually kinda liked them and after they played a set Hyde’s Roadies started setting up for Hyde. The funny thing was that every time the Roadies did something on stage the audience screamed and cheered; when Hyde finally got on the stage, the room bursted with cheers and screams.
During the concert Hyde played (note: I’m not 100% I got all the songs down and in order, my memories crap and I’m way too psyched to concentrate)
Jesus Christ (there’s at least 2 songs between Jesus Christ and Season’s Call)
Made in Heaven
Faith
It’s Sad
Season’s Call
Evergreen (dist.)
Perfect Moment
Sweet Vanilla
Instrumental break (just playing on the guitars I call this moment the “water passing song”, after about 5 girls fainted HOB staff started passing out water and HYDE and co. started playing)
Dolly
Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds
Hello
Midnight Celebration
Encore-
Countdown
Hideaway
Unexpected (dist.)
After playing for a bit Hyde talked to the audience, this is how it went (from what I can remember):
Hyde: Hello California!
(audience cheers)
Hyde: Are you having fun?!
(Audience shouts out “yes”)
Hyde: Me too!
Hyde: (In one of the best moments of the night) I’m happy to see me….(makes a face at this mistake as audience laughs)…see you! Are you happy to see me?!
(Audience cheers and shouts “yes”)
Also during the concert Hyde asked the audience is they would “get crazy with me” (Sweet Vanilla and Midnight Celebration [he said it more than once]) and “sing with me” (Unexpected) and when before he sang Season’s Call he asked if he could sing “a Japanese song.” (of course you can Hyde) About half way through the concert about 5 girls collapsed (two of them right in front of me) and were dragged out of the mosh pit (this is about the time when Hyde and co. started playing an instrumental break of sorts [which I affectionately refer to as the “water passing song” since the HOB staff started administering water to the audience]). To my surprise and glee Hyde played Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds and all the audience members really joined in (even a couple behind me that, from what I gather didn’t realize they were going to a Japanese artists’ concert). Unfortunately when Hyde got to Midnight Celebration he forgot the lyrics and accidentally smacked his head on his mic (in which he gave the audience an embarrassed smile and a Roadie came and fixed his mic).
I have to say this concert was absolutely amazing (and truly worthy of being my first J-Rock concert). I really had a blast, it definitely makes the dehydration, swollen ankles (from jumping up and down), sore back and arms (from my backpack and swinging my arms) worth it, and I really wish I could go to the other shows. Overall I have to say the best moments were the “I’m happy to see me” moment, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, the encore (everyone counting down in Countdown was awesome), the audience singing Hello, Unexpected sing-a-long, Hyde smirking in the direction of an male fan (said male fan screamed “Hyde you’re so sexy!”), and Hyde numerous tongue poses. Unfortunately there were about 5 people (from where I was standing) that took pictures :P but I knocked into one on purpose and screwed up her shot so that made it a little better.
Oh yeah, I found the gift table before I left and dropped off my fanbook page and Hyde’s lolly (which due to the heat in the venue was slightly melted on its tips ), so Hyde should be getting them. (yay!)
If there’s anything I’ve left out or need to correct please don’t hesitate to tell me (nicely please T-T ) I really want this to be as good as possible.
